M-LS NF Wasatch Plateau:
On December 21, 2005, the Manti-La Sal NF withdrew its Record of Decision and Final Environmental Impact Statement for term grazing permits for 31 Sheep Allotments on the Wasatch Plateau following our appeal. You might be interested in reading the Chronology of Coalition involvement in this EIS and/or Summary of the Appeal of the Final EIS.
In January 2006, District Ranger Mesia Nyman indicated that the Forest will issue a new Final EIS and Record of Decision at the end of 2006 after looking at (1) springs; (2) aspen regeneration; (3) exotic/native species trends; (4) boreal toad information; and (5) "clarify" some of the monitoring. (Note: the Final EIS did not indicate what monitoring would be done by the Forest in these 31 allotments during the life of the term permits.
The Three Forests Coalition will be making suggestions regarding the above issues and may be doing some on-ground monitoring to complement what the Forest will be doing.
